30 INSTEADS (?): Part 1
Hello everyone! Welcome to the first part of my new series, 30 INSTEADS. The goal here is simple: to suggest small but powerful shifts in our mindset and actions that can significantly upgrade our lives. We'll explore five each day for six days.
Today, we're moving from passive to active living. Let's dive in.
1. LIVE Instead of Just EXIST
Just Existing is going through the motions on autopilot. It's a routine of wake, work, eat, sleep, repeat, without passion or purpose. Living, however, is an active verb. It means being present, seeking out new experiences, feeling joy and pain deeply, and coloring outside the lines. Don't just let the days pass; fill them with intention. Choose to live.
2. LISTEN Instead of Just HEAR
Hearing is a passive, biological function. Sound enters your ears, and your brain processes it. Listening, on the other hand, is an active skill. It's about paying full attention, seeking to understand the meaning and emotion behind the words, and resisting the urge to just formulate your response. When you truly listen, you connect. Listen to understand, not just to reply.
3. COMMUNICATE Instead of Just TALK
Talking is the act of transferring information from your mouth to someone's ears. Communicating is the art of ensuring your message is received and understood as you intended. It involves clarity, empathy, and sometimes, listening more than you speak. It’s about connection, not just transmission. Communicate to build bridges, not just to make noise.
4. AGREE Instead of Just COOPERATE
Cooperating means we work together because we have to, often while silently disagreeing. It's functional, but it's fragile. Agreeing is finding a genuine, shared "why." It’s about aligning on a common goal or principle, which creates a foundation of unity and passion. When a team agrees on a vision, cooperation becomes effortless and powerful. Seek true agreement, not just surface-level cooperation.
5. BLOOM Instead of Just GROW
Growing is natural and inevitable—we all get older, gain experience. Blooming, however, is intentional. It's the vibrant, visible result of nurturing your potential. A plant can grow in the shade, but it blooms in the sun. Are you just accumulating years, or are you actively blossoming into your best, most vibrant self? Seek the conditions that allow you to bloom.
That's it for Part 1! These five shifts are about taking control and adding more depth to your everyday actions. What does "living" instead of "existing" look like for you?
Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow, where we'll explore:
1. Invest instead of just spend
2. Create instead of just think
3. Excel instead of just work
4. Give instead of just share
5. Discern instead of just decide
See you then.
Remember:- THE WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE YOU ARE IN IT.
